iPhone 16 Pro, Pro Max to Feature Same Tetraprism Camera as iPhone 15 Pro Max, No Zoom Upgrade Expected

In a recent update, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature the same tetraprism camera specifications as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, implying no new zoom upgrade for these upcoming models. This tetraprism camera setup will limit both models to a 5x optical zoom, maintaining the status quo from last year’s premium handset.

While some might be disappointed by the lack of a zoom upgrade, there is a silver lining. For the first time, the periscope zoom lens will not be exclusive to the top-tier model, meaning the 16 Pro will also benefit from this feature, potentially saving customers some money.

Apple has added Genius Electronic Optical to its supply chain alongside Largan Precision to handle the optical zoom lens production. Despite this addition, Kuo mentions that Largan’s shipment price remains unaffected, which is unusual given the industry standards.

For those not particularly excited by the tetraprism camera, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will reportedly feature Sony’s new 48MP IMX903 camera with dual-layer transistors. Although the overall design may not see significant changes, we can anticipate multiple camera upgrades in other areas.

Stay tuned for more updates on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max as we approach their release, and keep an eye out for additional improvements and features that Apple might unveil.
