Xiaomi has long been at the forefront of innovative smartphone designs, and its latest patent might be the most exciting one yet. A patent published by the China National Intellectual Property Administration reveals a possible Xiaomi tri-fold phone that could rival foldables like the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. This patent, issued in December 2022, showcases a more practical foldable design than Xiaomi’s earlier attempts.
Unlike older tri-fold concepts, this new design only uses one screen, which can be folded to reveal a third of the display or fully extended for maximum screen space. Rumors suggest that Xiaomi will unveil this tri-fold phone as part of its Mix series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February 2025. However, it’s unclear whether this will be a new Mix Fold or part of a separate series.
The folding tech market is heating up, with Xiaomi, Samsung, and others working on similar designs. Could 2025 be the year tri-fold phones become mainstream?
